This is a partial list of our priority service projects for Rotary Year 2011-2012. Updates are still pending.
1. A Package of interventions for the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) and Adopted Barangay of RC Makati Mckinley
The project involves the identification and implementation of activities for the Posadas Community, Sucat, Paranaque City, RC Makati Mckinley’s adopted RCC (village). The interventions may include basketball clinic for the kids of the barangay to be conducted by volunteer coaches/trainers and professional basketball players, free legal consultation from lawyer members of RC Makati Mckinley, livelihood, school supplies assistance and other interventions that RCMMc may viably pursue in consultation with the officials of Barangay Posadas, RCMMc has been implementing projects for the residents of the barangay since 2005.
2. Christmas outreach Project with an Aeta Resettlement Village
For 4 years now, members of Rotary clubs of Makati Mckinley trek to Angeles City, Pampanga during the Christmas season to give gifts of foodstuffs to Aeta households who lost theirs homes during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and are resettled in an Angeles City village. The club intends to further boost its commitment to the tribal community by enhancing the gift package and increasing the number of beneficiaries.
3. Gawad Kalinga
In 2006, the leadership of the Rotary Club of Makati Mckinley committed to finance at least one housing unit for an indigent family in a Gawad Kalinga (GK) village in Taytay, Rizal, and the location which the Rotary District has targeted for support. The club hopes to make good this commitment during the Rotary Year 2009-2010, which was not realized four years ago due to time and financial constraints.
4. Other Community Projects
Every Rotary year, Rotary International (RI) and Rotary District 3830 identify areas of project focus for all clubs to consider. During the Rotary 2009-2010, RI is according priority to project for improving the health and nutrition status of children, while District 3830 is increasingly focusing on the project alleviating poverty, hunger, literacy, disaster management and clean environment. Rotary Club of Makati Mckinley, therefore, intends to pursue activities in the following areas:
- Nutrition – School feeding project, especially support to the government’s “Food for School” Program
- Literacy – Call center training; educational scholarships for the blind, school supplies assistance, reading/writing lessons
- Environment – Information and education campaign to targeted communities on proper waste disposal; clean air/water seminars, provision of trash cans to adopted barangay, sponsorship of seminars on climate change and emission trading.
- Medical Missions – Proposed joint projects for medical/dental mission and distribution of free medicines.
- Legal Aid Clinic – Free legal consultation/notarization and assistance to chosen community.
For cost effectiveness, financial levering and greater social impact, RCMMc will pursue a significant proportion of these projects jointly with other Rotary Clubs in and outside of the District, as well as with other civil society groups and the private sector.
