President’s Message

Get active, get involved!

I would like to thank everyone for the high attendance during our Fellowship night   last Wednesday.  It is my hope to have the same number of attendance during  regular meetings  (like today) and  during service project activities.

Regularly attending/participating in club meetings and service project activities offers the opportunity to get acquainted with and be familiar with Rotary. Attending weekly club meetings  allows us to learn more about  our club’s service project activities, and participating in club service projects  provides us information about our club’s involvement in the  community we serve, thus,  we can further  take  action by deciding  to  volunteer our time and talent where they are most needed.

We encourage our baby Rotarians, Abe and Libay to make an effort to attend our meetings and participate in our project activities. You are now part of an international network of business and professional community leaders – leaders who have decided to make service to others an important part of their lives. Leaders who believe that each one has a potential to make a positive change.  Please always remember that what you get out of Rotary depends largely on what you will put into it. What you will accomplish in Rotary is up to you. Rotary is fulfilling and fun, for  as  long as  you will  get active,  get involved!

Let me take this opportunity to thank PP Mike and Dir. Mila for introducing Abe and Libay into the world of Rotary.  Thank you for believing that diversity and variety in membership are needed for a better and stronger RCMMc!

Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan

September is New Generations Month.  It is a month that all clubs are encouraged to undertake projects that support the fundamental needs of new generations.  We hope to heed  to  the  call  by doing very meaningful projects for the youth – to improve their  health,  values as human beings,  education to improve their lives in the future,  and self  development which will  be one of the keys  to their  success.

Our latest project, “Gatas Pangkalusugan”, marks the beginning of more projects we will undertake for the benefit of the youth.  It was last Sunday when my classmate CMP  Ms. Nanette  de Lara from the Rotary Club of Makati San Miguel and myself traversed the hilly road going to Sitio Kamandag, Mayamot, Antipolo City to distribute cans of  milk  to 50 children below 2 years old.  Driving to the distribution site was quite an experience for a lady driver like me. The road was one-lane, rough and rocky, thus, it was so much a relief when we finally got to our destination. The distribution went smoothly as the 50 beneficiaries were already identified few days before. Both CMP Nanette and myself agreed that although we missed our family Sunday activities,  the mixed feelings of anxiousness and excitement while traversing the hilly road, the bond that we developed as classmate presidents and the fulfillment we felt  that we were able to do service were all worth it. (We promised ourselves though that moving forward we will avoid conducting projects on a Sunday!)

Sept 3, 2011 was yet another busy Saturday for RCMMc because we implemented/participated in two club activities on a single day!  RCMMc, in partnership with PSI (a training company, where our Director for Vocational Committee Atty. Pol Sangalang is a volunteer facilitator/trainer/coach), conducted a seminar on labor law.  Our special thanks to Dir Atty. Pol  Sangalang for unselfishly sharing his expertise and knowledge to the participants, majority of which were young entrepreneurs and businessmen.  Thanks too to Dir Jackie Lay and Honorary Member Meynard Talens for attending the seminar.  In the afternoon, we joined the RYLA committee team in Antipolo to conduct an ocular inspection of the RYLA event venue.

Life back to normal!

Vacation time is over and I am almost quite sure that we all went back to work today.  I hope we were able to spend quality time with our family and get the rest we so much deserved.  The vacation seems too short. Invariably when vacation ends and we go back to work, transition can be a little rough.  Hope that even if some of us are experiencing post-vacation blues, it will immediately wear off, and that we are raring to start working again! If so much work is waiting for us, let us consider it as a blessing!  Let us all look at it this way: If we can leave work for a few days and there’s no work waiting for us, we are not really needed.  This just means that our lives are back to normal again!

RCMMc also resumes its activities and projects, which we are again appealing  for your  participation  and support.  This coming weekend, we will be conducting 3 activities. On Saturday, Sep. 3, Dir. Pol Sangalang will conduct a seminar/vocational project entitled “Win-Win Labor Law for Business Owners and Managers” at 10-11am.  At 1:00pm of the same day, we will  join  the  ocular inspection of host clubs  of  RYLA event venue in Antipolo at 1:00pm.  On  Sunday, Sept 4, 2011, we will distribute cans of Enfalac milk  to 50 selected  children  below  2 years old   to a community  in Juan Sumulong in Antipolo. This project will be in partnership with RCM San Miguel c/o Pres Nanette de Lara.

Last week was a relatively light week for us with only 2 activities:  the RCC Roadshow held last Tues, Aug 23, and the Governor’s Day in Tuloy sa Don Bosco last  August  25.  In both events, I am so happy to note and very thankful that I was not alone as some of you supported and  participated these activities.  I would like to give special thanks to PE/Sec Rico and Dir Rudy Palaganas for joining me in the RCC Roadshow. Also, I would like to extend  my gratitude to VP Julie Icamina,  Dir  Jackie Lay and Dir  Liza Gaspar for spending time and  resources  by  attending  the Governor’s Day in Tuloy sa Don Bosco. Kudos to you all!

Working Together Works!

Last Saturday, Aug 20, RCMMc accomplished two projects simultaneously and I would say it was quite an achievement!

We implemented a whole day literacy/vocational project in partnership with Gnosis International, a seminar about Speech and Personality Development specifically catering to public school teachers.  We were also co-host to the Rotary Academy Public Course Module 1 – Rotary Basics.  As President, it was imperative that I attend and be present in both activities.  As faith would have it, the two venues were just walking distance from one another so I managed to juggle my responsibilities in both events.

I would like to emphasize however that doing everything alone last Saturday would not have been possible. I am so thankful that VP Julie, Dir Jackie, Dir Eugene, PE/Sec Rico, Treas. Jean, PP Bing, and Auditor Mark were present and took on some of my jobs whenever necessary.

I would like to give special mention  to Dir. Jackie  for being instrumental  in  the fulfillment of one of the requirements  for  an effective club,  that is,  to  be able to conduct and implement singly  one vocational project.  Special thanks, too, to PP Bing for initiating that RCMMc become co-host to the Rotary Academy Public Course Module 1.  In both events, RCMMc was very well represented and we have shown  to all project  stakeholders our commitment and  dedication to be of service to others.

Again, thank you for sharing your precious Saturday time with Rotary.  If I was alone, I can only do so little. Together we were able to do so much!

Let Us Do Our Part!

What Rotarians get out of Rotary depends largely on what they put into it!

Attending the weekly meetings not only allows us to enjoy fellowship, enrich our professional and personal knowledge, but also allows us to meet other leaders in our community.  Participating in local and international projects allows us to share our time and talent, which gives fulfillment to one’s self and enriches one’s soul.

Deciding to be a member of this very prestigious organization is VOLUNTARY.  We had a CHOICE! It was with our own free will to become part of this organization, so it is just fitting that we share responsibilities.  Doing our part means keeping this organization of our CHOICE strong and vibrant. We are therefore expected, as VOLUNTARY members to do our part – attend meetings, participate in service projects, pay our dues, volunteer for leadership roles at the club and beyond, and propagate the good deeds of Rotary to encourage new members.  August is Membership Month and we hope that this month reminds us always of how we can do our part as Rotarians.

Please  allow me to take this opportunity to  thank PP Mike, Sec/PE Rico and  Treas/Dir Jean for doing  their part  and sharing the responsibilities  by  attending and participating  the District Rotaract Interact  Training Seminar (DRITS) last  August 13, 2011. Join me in congratulating Treas/Dir Jean and Sec/PE Rico for volunteering and accepting leadership roles beyond the club level as DRIAC’s RY 2011-2012 Treasurer and PRO, respectively. Lastly,  let us  thank  PP Mike and Sec/PN Rico  for sharing their time and resources  by  sponsoring our  fellowship  for  the month of August, 2011!

Please let us continue doing our part!

“So Far, So Good”

How time flies!   Today’s meeting is already our last for the month of July for RY 2011?2012!   I am happy and proud to note that we will be finishing our first month of this Rotary year, “so far, so good”!

Aside from participating in ALL the district events/activities (District Handover, Rotary Para sa Kabataan, Club Trainers Training (CTT) and Membership Seminar), we are happy to report that we already accomplished one club mission essential task,    that is, to conduct singly one community service  ?  the Medical/Dental/Deworming Mission with 500 beneficiaries at the Mayamot Elementary School in Antipolo City.  My experience doing the mission was personally a heartwarming one. I am thankful that RCMMc became an instrument in helping others. I wish all of us will have an opportunity in the future to participate in missions like this.
Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone for the participation, support and cooperation, especially to the following who played   important roles during this past two weeks for us to be able to accomplish our mission:

  • To PP Ces Singzon, VP Julie Icamina, and Director Eugene Tan for taking time out of their busy schedules last July 15, 2011 to join the  Medical/Dental/Deworming mission
  • To Dir Eugene  for  sponsoring our first fellowship activity last   July 20, 2011 at TongYang, Atrium Megamall
  • To PP Mike Macatangay, Dir Cherrie Tinoko and Dir Liza Gaspar for attending the Membership Seminar held lastJuly 23, 2011 at the AIM Conference Center.

Thank you!  It is indeed so far, so good for RCMMc!
