Club History

The Rotary Club of Makati McKinley was conceptualized in a Makati seafood restaurant in July 2004 by a group of politically like-minded individuals who believed that banding themselves into a civic organization would enable them to further strengthen their bond to fulfill their collective desire of reaching out to the less fortunate in the Philippine society.

The club was formally accepted into the Rotary International on October 6, 2004, making it one of Rotary’s Centennial Clubs in District 3830. The Rotary Club of Makati Legazpi sponsored RCMMc, while then District Governor Special Representative (DGSR) Patty Chiong actively facilitated the club’s entry into Rotary International. Past President (PP) Diony Magpantay of RC Lucena was also instrumental in RCMMc’s chartering, teaching would-be members the basics of Rotary. Manny Portes became RCMMc’s Charter President (CP) and was re-elected President for RY 2005-2006.

To increase awareness and participation of members in club  activities, the weekly club bulletin, The Acacia, was launched on January 12, 2005.  Since then, the club has evolved into an organization of professionals and volunteers, and has undertaken numerous projects to uplift the community it serves and in fulfillment of the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”. Proof of which are the awards and recognitions it has received from the District and Rotary International.

The Rotary Club of Makati McKinley (RCMMc) implemented in July 2009 two of its largest service projects since the club was chartered five years ago. With a combined cost of about P900,000, the Avoidable Blindness and the Meal and Gift from the Heart projects cut across several Rotary themes and priority thrusts, notably health and hunger, literacy, child mortality, youth service, international service, and even the development of club leaders beyond club level, through partnerships with other clubs in the District.
